Engagement sessions have always been one of my favorite parts of my job. What could be more fun than exploring the Bay Area for new photo spots with a newly engaged couple? Engagement sessions are a great way to get in front of the camera and learn how to relax and have fun while having your portraits taken. For myself as the photographer, it’s a great way for me to get to know a couple before their wedding. After living in the San Francisco Bay Area for 7 years, I have come across some pretty awesome spots for engagement photos! Some of them were shown to me by my amazing brides and grooms, and others are places I’ve come across on my own by trial and error. Here are the five best locations for engagement photography in the Bay Area!
1. Potrero Hill
You can’t get better views of San Francisco than at Potrero Hill. It’s so easy to take advantage of the colorful walls and beautiful sunsets!
2. Japanese Botanical Garden at Golden Gate Park
It’s just so pretty and whimsical here! The light is often gorgeous here as well, especially in the morning.
3. Baker Beach and Crissy Field
What’s not to love about these two locations? They both reside on either side of the Golden Gate Bridge, so there are great views, beautiful sunshine, sand, and even some old military buildings nearby that make for great photo backdrops.
4. Napa and Sonoma Wineries
Ok, this isn’t technically the Bay Area, but it’s close enough and offers great options for engagement photos. There are so many wineries to choose from, and often they let you do your photo session there for free as long as you let them know you are coming! The amazing one shown below is Viansa Winery in Sonoma.
Walking around in Sonoma Square is another great option, and there are plenty of photo opportunities. This one below was taken outside the Mission in Sonoma Square.
4. Tilden Park
Tilden Park is ideal in that it has so many options. If there isn’t any parking in one location, just drive a few miles down the road to another. There are endless trees, paths, fields, and gardens to explore.
5. Muir Woods
Muir Woods is famous in it’s own right. The majestic trees are the perfect backdrop!
